Mediation is a form of alternative dispute resolution in which each party agrees to meet with a neutral third party and have conversations designed to work out a solution to the problem the parties face. The mediator may meet together with all parties and then one-on-one with each party, to discuss each person's viewpoint in a private, comfortable setting. The mediator focuses on asking questions that get to the true root of the problem and finding out what barrier prevents the parties from reaching a satisfactory agreement. Alternative dispute resolution - especially mediation - is appropriate in many types of conflict, including:
